This event focused on both dye plants which have been around for thousands of years such as madder, weld, woad and indigo as well as the more common ones such as nettles, meadowsweet, and st john's wort present on your local “patch”
The first part was a walk led by local botanist Celia Cox looking at plants for their edibility, folklore, general and medicinal uses. The second half, given by expert dyer Judy Hardman, showed the various colours which could be obtained by these plants and the ways that they can be modified by either using the different parts of the plant or by using the different fixers (mordants), which hold the dye to the fibre.
